Meet the Trainers

Krista

Krista is a Level III CrossFit Certified Trainer, has a CrossFit Basic Barbell certification, holds a current USA Weightlifting Club Coach certification, and is a member of IDEA Health and Fitness Association. She was an indoor cycling (a.k.a. Spinning) instructor when she found CrossFit in 2004. Krista heads the San Diego CrossFit Weekend Warriors with her husband, Ahmik. She is the co-owner and operator of CrossFit SoCal, and proud mother of two. She personally trains clients and coaches several Elite Fitness and Fundamentals classes weekly.

Ahmik

Ahmik is a Level III CrossFit Certified Trainer, has a CrossFit Basic Barbell certification, and is a physician and Radiology resident at Balboa Naval Hospital. He has personally trained hundreds of people one-on-one and in group settings. He brings a vast array of medical and dietary knowledge to our fitness program. Ahmik was an NCAA Division I Cross Country and middle distance Track and Field athlete at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Karen is a Level 1 CrossFit Certified Trainer and has a CrossFit Basic Barbell and Olympic Weightlifting certification. She is an ACE Certified Peer Fitness Trainer and firefighter/paramedic for the San Diego Fire/Rescue Department. Karen dedicated herself to physical fitness and training later in life, and proudly graduated from the Fire Academy at the age of 42.

Melissa is a Level 1 CrossFit Certified Trainer and has a CrossFit Basic Barbell certification. She has been training dolphins and sea lions for 11 years. For the last 4 years she has been a contracted marine mammal trainer for the U.S. Navy. Physical fitness has always been an important part of her life and work. She has dedicated her fitness lifestyle to CrossFit for the last year.

Adam is a Level I CrossFit Certified Trainer. He has been a Rescue Swimmer in the United States Navy for 7 years, and has trained many individuals and students in that time. He is a highly motivated instructor, who loves introducing people to CrossFit. Physical fitness has been a very important aspect of Adam�s life, and he loves sharing his enthusiasm with anyone willing to let him. He has been a dedicated CrossFitter for the last year, and consistently trains to exceed his previous goals towards achieving elite fitness. He trains clients and Fundamentals classes weekly.

Mike is a CrossFit Level 1 certified trainer and also holds an Olympic Weightlifting certification. He has dedicated the last 8 years of his life to serving in the U.S. Navy and continues to serve while he pursues a career in fire fighting, which he hopes to achieve when he leaves the military next fall. Physical fitness has always been an integral part of Mike's life. He enjoys many endurance sports, including swimming, running, cycling, rock climbing, and mountain biking. Mike has dedicated his fitness training to CrossFit for the last two years. His spirit for competition and his passion for the CrossFit method are what drives him, and he wishes to share this enthusiasm with anyone who will listen.

Erwin is a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer with a CrossFit Basic Barbell Certification.Coming from a powerlifting background, Erwin has trained with CrossFit SoCal over the past year with great results. He has spent the past few years working in software. And being couped up in an office all day, he knows first hand the benefits CrossFit can bring to ones physical as well as mental health. Highly motivated, Erwin loves to share his enthusiasm for CrossFit with anyone that's interested - and many times even those who aren't. Erwin trains clients and Elite classes on a weekly basis.

Sarah is a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer. She is a devoted CrossFitter who has been active with CrossFit SoCal for two years. Sarah was bored with typical gym workouts when she found CrossFit and was amazed by how exciting and addicting she found her new program. She credits CrossFit with re-inspiring her love for physical fitness and health. In addition to being a CrossFit trainer, Sarah is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and works as a therapist and behavioral consultant. Sarah trains Elite Fitness classes weekly and is also available to train Fundamental clients.

Tim Chan is a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer and has over ten years of experience in the fitness and wellness industry. Tim is an avid CrossFitter, and has been active with CrossFit SoCal for three years. He can be seen helping out around the gym, as well as, with Weekend Warriors. Tim holds additional certifications: Yoga, CrossFit Basic Barbell, Thai Massage, Spinning (indoor cycling) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). While pursuing his passion in fitness coaching and instruction, he also works full-time in Web Services at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine.

Chrissy is a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer with a CrossFit Basic Barbell Certification. Her fitness background primarily consisted of distance running before finding CrossFit. Since finding CrossFit a year and a half ago, her physical fitness has improved to levels she never thought possible and she has developed a profound respect for this amazing program. As a prior Navy Hospital Corpsman, Chrissy knows firsthand how important physical fitness can be in both your work and personal lives. Chrissy is available to train Fundamentals classes weekly. She and her fiance Mike train Super-Elite fitness classes daily.

Andrea is a Level I CrossFit Certified Trainer and CrossFit Kids
Certified. She has been crossfitting since 2007 and has an athletic background in running and triathlons. She coordinates of a youth obesity prevention program educating young people about nutrition and physical activity, and is pursuing a master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion at San Diego State University. Andrea leads adult and kids classes at the gym and is available for fundamentals and private training as well.

Nuno is a Level I CrossFit Certified Trainer. He grew up in Portugal and moved to San Diego in 1991.  He played competitive soccer and volleyball growing up and after college.  He was an NCAA Division I Track and Field athlete at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - competing in the 200M and 400M sprints.  He worked in fitness centers in NYC and SD after earning his bachelors.   He began competing in triathlons in 2006, completing a 1/2 Iron Man, numerous sprint distances, and a few Olympic distance triathlons.  He began doing CrossFit to become a better overall athlete in all areas of fitness.  He is available to train clients  and he teaches Elite classes on a weekly basis.

Lauren is a Level I Certified Crossfit Trainer with a Crossfit Basic Barbell Certification.  She was introduced to Crossfit while working as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor in Alexandria, Virginia.  After years of spending hours at the gym on stairmasters and weight machines, she began training at Crossfit Alexandria and has never looked back.   Lauren also holds a Personal Trainer Certification from AFAA, and has experience working with clients of all ages and a variety of fitness levels.  She is eager to share with others what can be achieved through Crossfit training.  Lauren recently relocated to southern California and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies from San Diego State University.  She is available to train clients in fundamentals, and teaches Elite classes on a weekly basis.

Susannah

Susannah is a Crossfit Level 1 Certified Trainer and has been crossfitting and teaching CrossFit since October 2008.
She trained and competed on the US National Kayak Team from 2001-2008, lived and trained at both the Lake Placid New York and Chula Vista California Olympic Training centers. She competed at four Kayak World Championships placing top 12, placed top 3 at 2006 Pan American Championships, and 4x National Champion.
Susannah coaches kayaking at San Diego Canoe/Kayak Club, does yoga, muay thai kick-boxing, jiu jitsu, and surf ski.  She is on the Community Team at lululemon athletica in  La Jolla. Susannah loves seeing people accomplish their goals in athletics and in life, and sees the power in bringing communities together through sports.

Tom will be getting his Level 1 Crossfit Certification (August 2009).  His background includes a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, and a Master's degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology, both from San Diego State University.  As well as being a Certified Athletic Trainer, Tom is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, and National Strength and Conditioining Association.  Tom is available to train clients and teaches Elite Classes on a weekly basis.

Marisa is a Level 1 Certified Cross Fit Trainer.  She joined CrossFit SoCal just over a year ago, and credits CrossFit with drastically changing her perspective on fitness.  Marisa's athletic background includes swimming, skiing, running, and just about anything that involves being outdoors.  Marisa aspires to have a career as a firefighter, and believes that the strength and conditioning acquired through CrossFit will be a tremendous asset in that profession.

He comes from a varied sports background, including competitive swimming, triathlons, rowing at UCSD, and many years of Karate. Matt is an Electrical Engineer and MBA, and trains clients and Elite classes in the mornings.

Seth is a CrossFit Level 1 Certified Trainer and has been active with CrossFit SoCal since February of 2009.  He did CrossFit on his own for approximately 9 months before joining the gym and has made some of the best friends since the military there.  The positive and motivational atmosphere of CrossFit SoCal is what keeps him coming back the most.  He spent 4 years as a Reconnaissance Marine, raced Olympic distance triathlon for 6 years and for the past 2.5 years has been an avid rock climber.  Seth is also a Paramedic and plans on becoming a firefighter one day soon.  Seth is available for fundamentals and runs several classes throughout the week.
